Cool. Pawn Breaks are very important in the Sicilian, the French, and pretty much any opening.

In the opening, what is the number 1 easiest plan to follow? Develop your pieces! But, do not forget the pawn breaks or you will be very cramped! In 1.e4 e5 openings, the pawn break is usually d4 or d5. Pawn breaks put pressure on the center and open up lines for your pieces. If your opponent takes the pawn, he will usually surrender the center so your opponent will have to take time to defend his center which gives you a tempo or so. See diagram below for a typical pawn break. White got his pawn break in. However he is only slightly better because Black can achieve his d5 break!
This (below) is a position from one of my games. My opponent developed naturally, but he forget the pawn breaks! So he got a cramped position.
So the lesson here is to have pawn breaks that attack the center and put pressure on it! But one last warning: develop a few pieces before a pawn break or you will get a inferior position!
Hope this information helps!
