Duras Gambit is 100% BUSTED

The Duras Gambit is busted. It loses by force.

It exposes black's king, simply loses a pawn and is thus one of the most worst defences against 1.e4 along with a5, a6, b5, f6, g5, h6 and h5.

It also dosen't open up any lines(only one for the KING) to develop pieces and would only work as an exotic King of the Hill experiment.

First, there's the Duras-Queen Trap.

Yes, the queen sac wouldn't work against higher rated players, but this is only the start.

Here's another example:

and another example:

That's why black's forced to play Nf6, but it's too no prevail.

Thank you. I can't believe anyone actually ever recommended it.

In the game you posted, why is black blocking its bishop with its rook???

I actually find that I win a lot with the durass gambit and bird. the examples shown are blunders of the durass for example with the first comment on top you don't take the queen you devope the night which threatens the queen for a knight bishop trade. or if the queen takes which is just plain stupid you take with the pawn and have a open file for the rook. I also castle very quickly when I play durass.

Oldrich Duras was a very strong player in the early 20th century. Chessmetrics has him rated #4 in the world in 1909. It's surprising to see his name associated with such an unsound opening. According to the Wikipedia, Duras played it a few times in an exhibition match against Bernstein. I'm guessing they deliberately played some dubious openings to entertain the crowd

It is a try to play the King's Gambit as black.

I think the above is the mainline...obviously white is far better.

Now This is good for black.

I think the line you demonstrated is more proof that even if white plays poorly they can still be OK against the Duras, as the evaulation there is still +1.5

No it's not. If White plays the much more sensible 4. d4 (or even 4. Nf3) instead of the terrible 4. Bd3 (which no decent player would ever consider, as it makes it hard for White to develop) Black is already lost and it's only move 4!
