Yes - if you are playing for the win, the Dutch is a great choice! Check out this group - http://www.chess.com/groups/view/dynamic-dutch-defense
No matter what, you will get VERY opinionated responses on this opening. It is my primary weapon against 1. d4, and I get very entertaining games every time, with great chances for the win.
Turbo, that is also a very fun defense! I just prefer to save my c-pawn for a possible ...c6. I use ...c6 a LOT in the Dutch, it is one tough cookie to crack!
Magnus Carleson just used the Dutch against Aronian (sp) the number 2 player in the world recently. At St. Louise tournament I believe. He drew the game but had some winning chances.
I never did much openings, but today I stumbled upon this one. The dutch defense, stonewall variation. I think I'm going to use that in my next games as black on d4. Been playing around with it a bit and I love the excitement it brings.
Could someone please post analysis of this line?(Preparing it for sunday tournament). Thanks
Hijacking the thread with no shame, eh?
To the OP, the Dutch is a great opening to imbalance the position and fight for the e4 square. I think the Leningrad is the best variation, just make sure you know your stuff in the Staunton gambit/Raphael/2.Bg5 lines.
Is it a good opening?
