Where you sacrifice (usually a pawn or two) material to obtain either:

1. Development advantage (danish gambit, scotch gambit)

2. Impressive attack (King's gambit, evans gambit, Max Lange Attack)

3. Long-term pressure (Benko gambit)

I have never heard of the elephant gambit. considering that I've seen Halloween's Gambit more often than this elephant, I don't think it's very good (the halloween is really bad)

Well... after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5 3.exd5, Black has two different approaches: 3...e4 and 3...Bd6. Which one interests you? I think 3...e4 is unsound, while 3...Bd6 is not trouble-free, either.

Probably best is the restrained 3...Nf6, although it does not seem that Black gains full compensation for the pawn.

Hey, I know the answer: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d5 and probably followed by exd5 (it is the best move). And for who does not know what is a gambit, it's basically like a sacrifice of pawn or pawns that leads to good positions.

And sometimes it leads to a thingy called Paulsen Countergambit, whatever it is.
