Elephant Gambit 6.Bb5+ critical variation

The Elephant Gambit starting with 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5!? is a great opening choice to surprise your opponent. I have played many interesting games with it, though the opening is considered not entirely sound. The move 6.Bb5+ is the most critical line.

Black can respond in various ways with 6...Nbd7, 6...Bd7 or 6...c6. My favorite move is 6...c6, but then White has the surprisingly strong 7.dxc6 bxc6 8.Be2! What do you think of this position?

It seems like Nbd7 is best, but white just trades, trades and players c4. The plain truth here is that the Elephant gambit is unsound, but it can be a good weapon if your opponent goes for 3. Nxe5 for example

The maroczy gambit variation of tha elephant gambit is certanly interesting but I prefer the paulsen countergambit

The move 6.Nbd7 indeed appears to be the best move in the position. Still, the gambit with 6...c6 looks interesting to me. The only problem is that White can just decline it by playing 8.Be2.

After the move 8.Be2 I discovered that Black can still play 8...Nbd7. If White then takes the pawn with 9.Nxc6 Qc7 10.d5 Bb7, Black can try to complicate the position, although White remains better. If White plays 9.Nc4, then 9...Bc7 10.0-0 0-0 11.Nc3 Ba6.

More safe is probably 8...0-0 9.Nc3 Qc7 10.Nc4 Ba6, but this doesn't give Black much.
