You're saying it strips up any preparation from your opponent but any experienced d4 player knows that after 2 dxe5 ...Nc6 3 Nf3 ...Qe7 4 Nc3 ...Nxe5 5 e4 White can give his pawn back to get a lead in development and I really can't see why Black would want to play such a position
Englund Gambit..your thoughts?
If Qd5, then I would play f6 and boy lemme tell ya this variation is FUN.
If Nc3, then just Nxe5 of course.
After f6 I just play e4 and let you have your pawn back
I fail to see what's wrong with 4.Bf4.
Actually, I like 4.Bg5 even better- if Black enters the 4...Qb4+ 5.Bd2 Qxb2 line then he is toast after 6.Nc3.
that pretty much beats it ez
Here's another one -- using a different move for white at move 5
White can transpose to the Danish Gambit with 2. e4.
Can transpose into main line Scotch too
I always play 4. Bf4 and when black plays Qb4+, I either play Bd2 or Nc3. Both are usually winning for white.

5.nc3 is not clear at all.
Why mess with something like that when 5.Bd2 is close to winning?
But you may play 4.Bg5! which is at least as good as 4.Bf4 is, and force Black to that line.
Why bother with 4.Bf4? Isn't white just a lot better after 4.Nc3 ? (1.d4 e5 2.dxe5 Nc6 3.Nf3 Qe7 4.Nc3 Nxe5 5.Nd5)
After 5...Nxf3+ 6.gxf3 Black's prospects look much better
4.Bf4 is much more direct refutation to 3...Qe7 since black is pretty much forced to play 4...Qb4+ and after Bd2 and Qxb2 white gets much more than the slight edge he has in the 4.Nc3 line.
I think white is fine in that line. I just think that after 5...Nxf3 6.gxf3 black is much worse. The queen has to go back to d8 to protect c7 (if 6...Qc5 7.b4 Qc6 8.b5!). After 6...Qd8, 7.Bf4 or e4, white is doing great.
The move e4 at move 5 looks much clearer for white. If Nxf3, Qxf3 and white is simply better in almost every way.
All gambits are unsound except Queen's Gambit. Englund is even less sound.
