i prefer 1.d4...e5 2.e4 but i guess its a matter of taste
Englund gambit?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Englund_Gambit#Blackburne-Hartlaub_Gambit
Hope this helps. In my ChessBase database white scores 79% after 1.d4 e5 2. dxe5 d6 3.Nf3 so this line shouldn't give rise to an advantage for black if white plays acceptably. I guess you just had a bad day.
I lost against the Englund gambit in the club after
d4-e5
dxe5-d6
exd6-Bxd6
and soon my opponent (who is a good player but probably wanted to try something fun for a blitz game) had his bishops on g4 and b4 and annoyed both my knights.
Is there a simple answer to this variation? I am learning 1. d4 from Cox's "Starting out" book but there he only discusses 2. ... Nc6. Thanks
