I don't think I've ever heard of "modern" Where in Europe is it?

NimzoRoy

What's a "European Influence?" The fact that the opening is named for someplace in Europe? How about openings and variations named after GMs from Europe?

electricpawn

Hard to escape history.

Some of my favorite openings when I'm in Europe:

Bonjour, comment vous êtes, je joue aux échecs

Hola, cómo estás, yo juego de ajedrez

Hallo, wie geht es dir, ich spiele Schach

The list goes on...

Very nice.

I don't think the Europeans are allowed to have openings unless the U.S. says it's okay.

rigamagician

Belarus, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine are all Slavic countries.  Last time I checked most of those exist. Wink

bresando

Thanks Smile However i think this should be simply called Tennyson Gambit by trasposition (usually reached via 1.Nf3 d5 2.e4) since it completely trasposes.

bresando

Or maybe this name refers particularly to 6.d3? But isn't Bc5 really uncommon due to 6.Nxe4 which looks rather pleasant for white?

afcwheels

has to be the Icelandic gambit of the scandanavian defence...
