OK, just today the forums have become flooded with threads on the Caro-Kann. This thread is for players who like to play a more interesting and exciting opening, such as the Schliemann defence to the Ruy Lopez or the King's Gambit. Just keep tactical.

Oh god...I have suffered so badly trying to play the Schliemann and playing against it.  eeeek. that's 4...f4, right?

The Schliemann defence goes as follows:

(Insert paragraph defending the tactical and dynamic potential of certain Caro-Kann positions for Black here. Possibly another about how it is interesting, to the other players.)

How about the Danish Gambit? I've played a few club games with it, but haven't scored too well. +2, =1, -3, I think. Any tips?

The Scandinavian is a good way to go if you don't want to study openings (and you get a full repertoire against 1.e4 with it). Don't be fooled and underrate this just because Black gets his Queen out early. By no means this is a patzer's opening; it has been played at the top level with good results.

Here is a game where Frank Marshall played the Danish gambit against Oldrich Duras, (an equally high profile GM) and won.

Nice! This forum is the place to be! I love wild openings!! One of my favorites is the dragon.

Duras is also known for the infamous Fred defence or Duras Gambit.
