Boris Alterman is my favorite gambit teacher, but then, he is the only one I know. Who is your favorite gambit teacher? Favorite gambit player? Favorite book on gambits?

All gambits must be theoretically unsound, since GM's only play them in blitz. Foot in Mouth

Danish Gambit example.

Nigel Davies' books Gambiteer I and Gambiteer II have a lot of interesting ideas.  Andrew Martin has videos on the Benko, Budapest, King's and Von Hennig-Schara Gambits.  They are both good teachers I think.

Alexei Shirov is probably my favourite gambit player.  He has played a lot of interesting games in the Botvinnik variation of the QGD Semi-Slav, the Perenyi variation of the Sicilian Najdorf and the Peresypkin sacrifice in the Sveshnikov amongst others.  Garry Kasparov has also played a huge number of interesting gambit games.

Favourite book?  Ivan Sokolov has an interesting section on the Jaenisch/Schliemann in The Ruy Lopez Revisited, and Sabino Brunello covers three gambits in Attacking the Spanish: Marshall, Schliemann and Gajewski.

GMs play gambits all the time in games at classical time controls.  Anand and Topalov played gambit lines in the Catalan and Gruenfeld in their recent world championship match for example.  The Benko Gambit and Ruy Lopez Marshall are popular all the way to the very top.  Some older gambits like the Danish or Latvian are not so popular, but there are many new gambits being introduced and explored all the time.
