Hello guys! Does anyone here play Alekhin defense with black pieces? I have started playing it recently and sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, so I wonder if there is a solid strategy for black. Thank you

Hmmm... I play it occasionally, but I am no expert on it. I will try to get you some more info.

Yes, I used to play the Najdorf, but then I started running into the variations that I mentioned before.

This thread would be a great use for the opponents of the players to practice against their favorite openings

Avatar of checkmatemark04

Yes, but the thing is, people could also be discussing an opening that they never playπŸ˜‰Β

Thanks for the advice once again Anish, I have completed the Bb5+ lesson, and I no longer fear it.

@TanakaYui, hello and thank you for your contribution. I was wondering if you have ever heard of this KGD trap.

I usually play Queen's gambit or London, but I think I want to start playing the English, I see a lot of opponents that know how to play against queen's Gambit, i'm hopingΒ  the english lead to some easier games

It mostly depends on time control. For White I like to play the Scotch Gambit in rapid or faster for its dynamic play, and the Italian Game in standard time control, though I sometimes play the Scotch in standard as well.

For Black that would be mainly Nimzo/Queen's Indian against 1.d4 on standard, and 1...d5 possibly followed by Albin Gambit in faster. Against 1.e4 just plain old 1...e5. These openings (Italian, Spanish, Four Knights) I played since learning chess as either side and I don't get lost too often.

Nowadays I'm just trying to find a suitable response against the French and Sicilian since those are my least favourite openings to play against (I have a negative score against each regardless of opponent strength) and found that the Morra Gambit is quite fun against unsuspecting Sicilians.

Same with the King's Gambit

King's Gambit is hot garbage.

Too many ways for Black to get a small advantage.

Lol, Right... That's why no one ever played it right? happy.png

Yes, I don’t like playing against the French either, but a quick study of the Milner-Barry Gambit would probably take away some of that fear.

That's why nobody plays it at the GM level any more outside of possibly blitz.

What GMs play in Blitz and what lowly amateurs play is irrelevant and has no meaning to the legitimacy of the opening.Β  I've seen numerous cases of garbage played where that side that played the garbage won only because the opposing side was clueless as to what they had to do.

Uhh... I'm pretty sure Bobby Fischer played it so no. It's a tried and true opening.Β  happy.pngΒ
