Favorite Openings at Higher Levels

I’ve been playing chess for a while now and openings have always been one of my favorite parts of the game. Personally, I switch between a few depending on my opponent.

With White, I enjoy playing the Italian Game if I want a flexible position, but I often go for the Ruy Lopez since it puts real pressure on Black right from the start. Against 1.d4, I like playing the Queen’s Gambit — it’s solid but still allows for a lot of active play.

With Black, I usually go for the Sicilian Defense against 1.e4 because I like sharp, dynamic positions. If I feel like keeping things solid, I’ll switch to the Caro-Kann. Against 1.d4, I’ve been experimenting with the King’s Indian Defense — really fun if you like counterattacks.

Curious to know, what’s your go-to opening when you’re aiming to play for a win instead of just equalizing?

Ruy Lopez for sureeeeee. For black Scicilian like what #2-3 said. Against d3 with black I think the KID and less likley the Nimzo-Indian defense
