I'm pretty novice and wanted to get feedback on this opening.

1. e4 d6 2. b3 Nf6 3. Bb2 e5 4. Nf3 Be6 5. d3 Nc6
Is white or black in a better position here?

It's pretty level in my opinion. Not much in it.

Here is a game that started that way. Black won, in this case, but I would not read too much into that.

It's too soon in the game, there's not much going on yet and it's roughly even.

Ok thanks. I suppose depending if black responds differently this opening could be problematic?

yeah, but dont fianchetto right away. your e pawn is hanging.

It's just like some players after developing. There's an opponent knight on d5/4/e4/5(depending on your colour) and you're gonna castle right away, really? That opens up to a LOT of attacks i could see happening on f3/6(again depending on your colour).

Also possible while the knight is on d4/5 is that you may leave the e2/7 square open, leaving it for check, a knight sacrifice to gain tempo and soon roll down the h-file if people castle kingside normally.

Of course, i'd rather keep the knight for future un-blockable checks.
