7...Ne7 and 8...O-O and white is worse. Also I would think that 4...cxd4 would be the more principled response.

Yes he said to me that there black need to play that but then white have tactical attack. Look at you white bishop, queen, rook and night. When they are together that is machine. If he play O-O now all my pieces will be on left queen side to attack there because that side is weak.

 I agree.  But 6. Bd3, anticipating ...O-O is better.

4. ...cxd4 5. Qxd4 Nc6 6. Q moves Bxb4+ seems to refute this line.

"French opening! Great opening!!!" If it was so great more GM's would use it. As it stands it's used more by weaker GMs and some IMs but most Super GMs wont play it and some (Garry Kasparov) hated the French and to my knowledge never played it in any tournament after becoming a GM. Kasparov noted that the French defence was uselessly passive and there were better alternatives in blacks arsenal. He quoted the scandinavian as an opening he considered superior even if it did waste a tempo- also he said black could play the Ruy and as his personal recomendation the Narjdorf or Dragon Scicilian.

That is my opinion. If Kasparov think that is this opening bad opening I dont think that.

Yes, you're absolutely right! The following players are not among the top, probably because they use(d) the French: Bareev, Morozevich, even Kasparov played a rather inferior variation of it against Kortchnoi in 2001, Kortchoin himself played it, so was Karpov, Khalifman, Radjabov, Kamsky, Short and Grischuk. Indeed, it's not ver popular.

I love the french, very instructive and has many different sides to it: a pawn chain struggle, hypermodern (in some ways), closed wing attacks, and then the game can be open because the center can easily open up, just not right away usually. At amateur level I think it's a really good choice because it's hard to find the right strategy against it but I admit at the 2700+ level it's not as effective simply because they know exactly how to exploit their space advantage, but even still it's fully playable and solid, it's just that black's counterplay tends to be less effective against them.

this line Im not a fan of, but the french itself it pretty good. not the best reponse but still good at any level. GM Alburt has it not in the first tier of replies (1st tier was sicilian, caro kann, and 1...e5) but in second, which is still decent.

Well Kasparov probably loved and could handle the dynamic positions of the sicilian, but the french is a calmer way to get some counterplay (usually), but it has a variety of positions you can't get in any other opening, but you do have to accpet a cramped game many times. Kasparov probably thinks too himself "why not just get active counterplay in the sicilian?" but many other GM's besides him appreciate it's value and show that black often gets long term counterplay and can often get a closed game if that's what he wants.

Always helps when black plays badly.

Tell that to Carlsen, Ivanchuk, Morozevich, Kamsky, Gelfand, Shirov, Grischuk, Akopian, Nakamura, Ponomariov, Navara, and Alekseev. Those are just some of the names I found with a quick db search for players over 2700 rating who have used the French at least once in 2009 or 2010.

He said "at least once." Don't make ridiculous statements that the French is very weak - this is your opinion. Many grandmasters love it.
