Georg Meier destroying the french defense

Hi guys,

I have come across a very interesting game played by GM Georg Meier, who might be one of the best experts of the french defense

I have analysed the opening and game here

I love the pseudo-greek gift and how white tricked the opponent in playing passively while setting a deadly trap !

Indeed, would be interesting to see how long it took Meier to find Ng5. I guess that he finds that stuff without any effort.

When u play h4 in this kind of position (typical in this french structure), u go for a greek sac.

Bxh7 before Ng5 is more usual but after 10.Bxh7 Kxh7 11.Ng5 (11...hxg5 would transpose into the game) Kg8 12.Qh5 hxg5 13.hxg5 Bxg5, not sure it wins for white.

So white plays other move order with Ng5 first, which works.

At this level (and lower), we play this almost instantly, all was prepared for this!

Just have to chose between Bxh7 and Ng5.

Black's play was not good, for example we can improve on f6 :

Edit : Lol sorry I didn't see your video where u give some of my analysis.

Your analysis? I have done everything on my own.

Did i say the opposite? I didn't mean that.

I made brief analysis which just agree with yours (which are more complete).

oh sorry for that. I got you wrong. I think I had never put that much time into a single opening variation, to just create an only 8min video.

The line with c5-b6 is very difficult and dangerous.

I would be very much interested in your evaluation after 7...c5. What would be your suggestion? Bb5, Bd3 or something else?

After 7...... c5? You better resign as you already did such serious blunder .

Stockfish said it is dead already and more than one piece down.

How top GM analyse in 2021.

7...c5 instead of 7...0-0 before 8...f6

Yes, it is the only recommanded move by both Stockfish and Leela.
