Giuoco Piano line?

Can someone please tell me what the best move is considered to be in this position? In a recent game I played Qe7, which was awful, and I was on the back foot for the whole game, and eventually lost. I believe it to be a line of the Giuoco Piano so I thought that there must be an acceptable move.

EDIT: Here is the full line (the full game, embarrassing though it is) for Afaf.

Could you post the line that got you here?

Thought not Tongue out

I believe the line is 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. c3 Nf6 5. d4 exd4 6. e5

I'm guessing that d2 pawn has been captured on d4 and then white played e5.  I would imagine d5 is the response.

If this is after 6. e5, then ...d5 is universally played by grandmasters.

It was similar to that, although it was slightly different move order, transposed from the Scotch Gambit.

d5 huh? Thanks! I guess I considered that too risky, en passant crossed my mind, opening the e-file.

yeah, check out the shredder opening database if you want to look into lines further

I am not sure about the posted diagram unless white blundered in the opening.  White plays d4 following c3, yet the pawn is still at d2.

If the line indicated is after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.c3 Nf6 5.d4 exd4 6.e5 d5! is strong.  7.Bb5 Ne4 and you get a Sveshnikov.

White has presumably entered the wrong position onto his diagram.  (OP:  you can edit the d2-pawn out.)

 Yeah sorry, edited.

my choices would be d5 or ng4

A Scotch Gambit transposition? What went on there then?!

I assume:

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Bc4 Bc5 5. c3 Nf6 6. e5

Usually 6. cxd4 is preferred in that position, but oh well. Both are playable.

Here's the actual move order:

1.e4 e5 2.d4 (Centre Game) exd4 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.Bc4 (now a scotch gambit) Bc5 5.c3 Nf6 6.e5

Aha! I would never have guessed that! So you transposed twice!

Centre Game -> Scotch Gambit -> Giuoco Piano! Laughing

Yeah, he kept me guessing all the time! Openings aren't my strong suit to be honest and this one just puzzled me. Worked for him though.

Never played it! looks cool.

i played it many times d5 is the best response with d5 black can get counter and have good re-attack.

Could you post the full line in the original post?
