Wondering if any GMs play the bird opening, and what sort of books they have written.

Cyrus Lakdawala has a book about 1.f4. Idk the book but I know he's a good author

Eh, Lakdawala is hit or miss!

His book on the Caro-Kann or Modern Defense are really good, but some of his others, like 1...d6, are questionable at best.  The line he gives as the "No Name Defense" (1.d4 d6 2.c4 e5) is good, but the Modern or Pirc is far better than the Pribyl, and his assessments for Black in that line are highly exaggerated!

All of the ones I'm referring to in this post are from the Move By Move series from Everyman.

Polar Bear (kind of Leningrad Reversed) aficionado is GM Danielsen. The first moves could be :

U can find a chapter on this line in Dangerous Weapons Flank openings.

If u want some GM playing regularly : Malaniuk (a Leningrad dutch specialist...), Granda Zuniga, Jakubiec, Reindermann, Rodriguez Vila...

Larsen played the Bird quite a lot, have a look at his games. He was the strongest Bird practitioner.

Go to your favorite player's page on chessgames, click on the repertoire explorer for white, and see if they have played it. Most GM's have 1 or two games with it. Also look at Lasker vs Bauer don't remember the year. Easily one of the most famous bird opening games ever.
