Halasz Gambit Sicilian Variation 1.e4 c5 2.d4 exd4 3.Bd3

The opening with moves 1.e4 c5 2.d4 exd4 3.Bd3 was one of the chapters
in Eric Schiller's chess book called "A Gambit Repertoire for White". He
borrowed the opening idea from my article on the Halasz Gambit 1.e4 e5
2. d4 exd4 3.f4 and later White plays Bd3. His opening was also called
the Halasz Gambit and he switched my original opening name for my Halasz
Gambit to the Halasz-McDonnell Gambit. However when I did a database
search for McDonnell there was no person by that name for my Halasz Gambit.
Anyway the Halasz Gambit Sicilian Variation is still a very strong opening
to play from the White side against a Sicilian Defense 1.e4 c5. See game attached
to this message.

Thanks for sharing, Clyde. It's a very interesting opening and I tried it in a few games. In the following I was opposed to a stronger opponent, I hope I have understood a little the spirit of this variation. Thanks again

Seems to be worth the pawn, & then some ... if you can get a sustained K-side attack going. Thnx & good looking out.

As long as Black treats it like an Open Sicilian where White hasn't taken back on d4 and not like in the games in this thread (especially xaddi's game; I've never heard of a 2150 playing that badly), there's nothing to fear from the Halasz Gambit.

That was a great upset win with the Halasz Gambit Sicilian Variation. You can also
consider playing the regular Halasz Gambit which goes 1.e4 e5 2.d4 exd4 3.f4 and
the White B plays to d3 like in the Sicilian Variation. White also goes for the kingside
attack.
