8.f3 has been played by Karpov, and after 9...exd4 10 Ne2 is strong
help understanding this slav position
that statistic won't do me much good in a game if I don't understand WHY black is better/equal in that position
To me, whites position seems kind of open. he's got a relatively small pawn formation on the kingside to make a fortress with, and the pieces just seem kind of difficult to harmonize defensively on the kingside. As black, I would probably be thinking be7, castle short, then try and get some play on the d file and maybe try and get at the pawns on the queenside.
After 10...Be6, Black has straightforward development while White has no specific threats. Perhaps you'd be better off explaining why you think Ne2 is so strong, then maybe I can help.
well after 11. Nxd4 then white has 2 strong knights on the 4th rank along with more space in the center
Thank you fezzik for the nice line. The problem was I was very hesitant to give out the bishop pair to white but now I see that there is good use of the e5 square and the d file. As for your comment on tactics, I work on tactics already, that's not a problem. I don't appreciate how you're using "work on tactics" as a way to dismiss me and my ramblings about how knights on the 4th rank for white are better than knights on the 6th for black.
Estragon, I think you can understand the problem of seeing 2 white knights on d4 and c4 and immediately thinking that white is better.
It seems to me that white is much better, due to the constant tactical idea of d5, the extra space, and the fact that the g6 bishop just hits the defended e4 pawn. How should black play this position?
