How do you play the KID as Black when White plays Bf4?

This reminds me of a London system setup, except White has played c4 and Nc3 rather than c3 and Nbd2. Most players that I have faced continue with h3, Nf3, e3 etc. like a London.

So do you continue with d6 and/or 0-0 as normal, or do you try and get rid of White's London Bishop ASAP? Or do you play something else entirely?

Thanks, but I don't have full access to the Opening Explorer.

What's the idea behind d5? It reminds me of the Grunfeld, so the move makes sense.

It is a transposition to the Grunfeld.

White plays a London with c4, so it is easier to attack white centre (which is more solid with c3).

For example u can try this :

Followed by Nc6, Bg4 and play against d4. On c5, b6 or/and Ne4. Thats the same against Bg5.

What if white plays d5? Well, unlikely to happen but for example :

With a Benoni type of position, where u can try Benko with b5 at some point. Qa5 is another idea.

Most London players (me at least) will play it more like this.

Mr.Gamificast, it's not and/or because you can't play d6 and 0-0 at once. It's just or.

International Master Pouchin, Benoni should probably be 6.e6, not 6.d6.

I love when some bright minds want to correct stronger players.

Black is not forced to play e6 in Benoni. However with this move order, 6...e6 (instead of 6...d6 in the second diagram i gave above) would be a risky choice because of Bd6 (though it may be a practical sac, but not sure it is sound).

Moreover, i quote myself : "Benoni type of position", which means not a pure Benoni.

This position could occur after a pure Benoni move order like 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 though the next moves would make a strange feeling with for example 3...g6 4.Nc3 Bg7 5.Bf4 0-0 6.Nf3 d6.

Another point : spell well my name please...

Good point - I didn't word that very well, did I? I meant d6 followed by 0-0, or the reverse (0-0 followed by d6).

IM poucin's c5 idea looks very attractive to me, since I play the Sicilian a lot as Black anyway.

However, the transposition to the Grunfeld (d5) idea looks good too though. I can't decide which I like more! happy.png
