Here is a recent forum topic on the opening. You might find something useful to you there.

I love 1. e4 too (though 1. d4 is starting to grow on me) and I play the Scotch when I can.

You just have to accept that not everyone is going to respond with 1. ... e5.

Even if they do they might respond to 2. Nf3 with Philidor's Defence (2. ... d6) or Petroff's (2. ... Nf6).

I'd suggest playing the move you are uncomfortable with yourself (1. ... d5) as Black in order to get used to it.

Even if you don't start enjoying it you may at least have a better idea of what you want to do when you are Black. Smile

NO best idea is just to play 2.exd5. Just take the pawn.

then i lose my pawn to their queen and from that point on their queen is ruining my game

You have no reason to fear this. If anything, you should be "ruining" their game because they have moved out their queen so early into the open. There's no reason to be so afraid of your opponent exposing his queen like that if there are no concrete threats.

The Scandinavian isn't a bad opening but it is understood to give white an advantage. Actually, I'd be less afraid of the ...Qxd5 variations with white and more afraid of the lines with an early ...Nf6 instead, although those are also okay to play for white.

The stuff in the diagram is main lines. In your games, I highly doubt anyone will play all these moves correctly because at your rating, most of the opponents won't know much theory. That said, I hope this diagram gives a good example of why you shouldn't be afraid of your opponent moving his queen all over the place and exposing it to attacks!
