The idea behind 1.Nf3 is to control the dark squares with pieces, the kingside fianchetto is typically apart of it. The big problem is that 1...d5 isn't forced so you won't get those nice imbalanced positions after 2.c4 but rather 1...Nf3 2.c4 hoping for some kind of English 2...c5 dealing with temporary symmetrty. The problem with this kind of play is that wining chances rely on imbalances, and if the pawn structure and piece distribution remain the same winning chances (for both sides) go down dramatically. An example of symmetry lasting too long:

Hey guys, i play the modern defense against 1.d4 and 1.e4 , but i don´t know what to do when my oppo
nent plays this
what can i do ?
We can see the same line in the Reti Opening , but sometimes i can play the move e5 directly with the modern spirit if white doesn´t play in the third move d4.
