i used to play 30 mins or 15+10 but i have a hard time sitting in front of a screen for 30-60 mins. is playing 5+5 ok to still get better ? wish chess.com had a 10+3.

5 | 5 is considered blitz, while 10 | 0 is considered rapid

Rapid games in theory tend to last longer, which means in this case you'd usually have more time to think in the middle game.

If you're playing 5|5 and your game has more than 60 moves, then your 5 | 5 will last longer than a 10 min game with no increment.

However, you won't have increments in 10 min, whereas 5|5 you'll have increment and less likely to get flagged.

It's a personal a choice... you can customize a challenge to play 10|3, but I don't know how easy it will be to find opponents

5+5 is a good time control imo because you have the increment which allows you to think. 10+5 is another nice time control and I think it's more common on lee chess

5/5 is good for fun and learning opening moves. if you want to improve go 15/10 or 10/5 on lichess

I vote for 10 | 5 👍

I believe around 10min games are optimal for having enough time to think for a little bit, while being short enough to fit in a busy schedule.

Real chess is 90|30, but that is hard online as it strains the eyes.
15|10 is decent.
Anything faster becomes a matter of dexterity and gambling.
