In Search of a Dutch Defense Player!

Recently I have embarked on the journey of opening theory. I started off with finding a reply to 1...d4 which I had always experienced trouble against. The Dutch defense appealed to me because of the TACTICAL positions that arise. I would really like to learn this opening thoroughly and it would be great if someone could share their knowledge with me. I'm interested in learning how you counter anti-dutch systems as well as your counters in the main lines. Thank you for considering and please reply if you are interested!

Thanks for all of your feedback, but I would like to stick with the Dutch Defense as opposed to the King´s Indian. The Dutch seems less popular, but perfectly playable. Interesting games normally unfold, and not many draws although the same could be said about the King´s Indian. I am still looking for a Dutch Defense training partner!

mcris

King Indian is totally defeatable, as discussed in another thread and demonstrated by some games (with engine help).

Zayone, if you are willing, I can play some Dutch games with you.

mcris

No, most classic openings can equalize and without mistakes, lead to draw.

ArgoNavis

Nobody plays the Dutch.

At least not at master level

I am a KID and Dutch player, FIDE 2168. I would be happy to play a few training games. Two good books if you want to learn more about the Dutch are the Diamond Dutch by Viktor Moskalenko (Leningrad, Classical and Stonewall) and the Killer Dutch by Simon Williams (Classical). I personally prefer the Classical as there is no g6 pawn to get in the way of the manouver Qd8-e8-h5, followed by f4, Bh3, Ng4, Bxg2, fxg3, Rxf3, Qxh2 and mate! Obviously it isn't always that simple, but to prove that this does work against top players, take a look at the game Wojtaszek - Williams (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1624386) where a 2700 GM got crushed in 20 moves with white!

jengaias: yes! First concern came when Kramnik defeated Kasparov in the World Chess Match, the game is well known.

mcris: No... At least not by the bayonet. 9.Ne1 Mar del Plata is far more dangerous and objectively probably a lot better for white, e.g. the Kozul c4-c5 sac, but black has his fair share of practical chances. In the bayonet 9...Nh5 is meant to be fine at the moment (see this game of mine  http://www.irlchess.com/games_archive/sundry_files_2015-07/milton-gallagher-glorney-2015.htm) and so is 9...Ne8, which is underestimated by engines. English GM Neil McDonald was recently crushed in a county match with white in this line.

mcris

dghd: I'm not even thinking so far as move 9. Winning is ensured earlier.

dghg1810

When?

dghg1810

The bayonet is what put Kasparov off the KID. Anything else he didn't feel was a problem.

mcris

GMs still play old variations, probably because they hadn't put the time to analize new ones. Some do with help of engines and ocasionally land a better one. Against KID, Wesley So has a recent win that is in line with my variation (in fact the variation was played earlier by a romanian GM).

dghg1810

Which variation is this? I thought So often plays the Mar del Plata, in which he was crushed by Nakamura at the Sinquefield Cup. Btw I apologise to ZayoneKing for taking this forum off topic.

mcris

I have reviewed the Mar del Plata variation here (https://www.chess.com/article/view/an-examination-of-the-mar-del-plata-with-9ne8), and it is not it. If you want, we can play a game. Do you accept a challenge?

(about the previous post I remind you that variations have been played by GMs and I used engine).

dghg1810

Sure, I'll play you.

dghg1810

jengaias: Yeah, I know. Most openings that are viable now will stand the test of time.

dghg1810

mcris meant me I think.

This place cracks me up. In the first 20 minutes I'm on here today I read that the KID is refuted and the Sicilian is a forced loss for black. LOL!

I think black is already significantly better :)
