Sometime in the near future I'm going to start a blog series on a virtual chess league based around improving and discovering new openings and games. "The Scholars League" is a league you can only enter if you promise to do post mortem among other things with a few exceptions of entry's. There will be cash prizes for this league funded by me. There's a lot to go over but I'll get to that later. Today I want to preview one of the discoveries which was played successfully (2 wins thus far against decent opposition). This creation of mine called the wild Boar goes like this 1.d4/Nf6 2.c4/g6 3.b4!?. So far I've encountered 3...e5 and 3...d5 but more on that later. Just wanted to introduce something to go with a briefing of what's to come with my future blogs :)

Why does everybody want to give names to crappy opening ideas?

This b4 idea is not new...

It is played by some very strong players after Nf3 instead of c4.

1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 g6 3.b4.

Nf3 is more useful than c4, at least u avoid e5 played soon by black, but anyway, white cannot prevent e5 (even with Bb2-Nf3, if white takes on e5, then Ng4 recovering next move e5.)...

This could just transpose into a KIA reverse, for instance :

There are lots of innacuracies in this game but it just gives u an idea of how the play can become sharp...
And this is not the end of the story...
Black has many choices : playing d5, playing for e5, playing for c5, many possible moves, with many different structures.
I wouldn't advice this way to play to anybody, since u don't develop your kingside, which is dangerous, specially for intermediate players.
Another example where white's lack of development was really a problem...
So to sum up, this way to play is possible but u have to be very cautious because it doesnt disturb black to react on centre woth e5 or c5 (and i didnt give example with d5 which is another way)...

I think GM Keith Arkell amongst others used to like playing that, and called it the old speckled hen, or something like that...Undecided

That first game posted by IM Poucin appears to be the stem game in the line with 2.c4.  Interestingly GM Portisch tried it out in the Hungarian championship the next year (consult chessbase).

Another discovery. he bolt gambit of the horowitz defense. 1.d4/e6 2.c4/b5?! in which the game ended in a draw. just a bonus preview from the same tournament!!

its a slight deviation from Arkell line and still keeps its own uniqeness. There are plenty of openings named after people or something but was originally played by someone else or a few times. If your 2-0 with it thus far by all means I think you have claim to it. the only problem here is that your not a IM/GM so people will instantly call it stupid or try not giving you your credit. Post the games so we can see which should be a joy to watch. in terms of it being trash...well there are a lot of real garbage openings worse than this thats registered in chess.com bookup database!

P.S. I also saw the comment of the Pepsi counter gambit on the coca-cola gambit. thats very playable and original good job! ignore the critics.

At the very least, your pretty good with the naming openings. they sound a little more fitting. better than speckled egg anyway
