Is e4 still playable?
@GMPatzer Well I’m aware, and I know they still get wins, but in theory could I not get a draw every time if I improved a lot and memorized a lot of lines?
How many "lines" do you think you would have to memorise? Serious question.

Which move by White does not lead to a draw if Black doesn't make any mistakes?
I’m not saying that black can’t get a draw, but it doesn’t take much to get a draw from e4 e5. I don’t know the Italian very well, but as an e4 player, it seems like at least the Ruy Lopez is unplayable as black can get a drawn Endgame with best play
For this reasons many top players nowadays prefer 3. Bc4 because it is more flexible and avoids drawish endings. Of course, at our level this is completely irrelevant.
Doesn’t take much to get a draw against e4?
If your level of play made that slightly true you’d have been playing Carlsen instead of Caruana.
What complete tosh.
I didn’t mention “at my level”. I asked about opening theory, hence I put this in the “Openings” category and not the “pick on lower rated players because you’re an asshole” category.
Ok, yes, Scottrf reply was rude. But the reason he was acting like this (beyond that he is probably a rude person anyway), is that because your question... how should I put it politely, was a "bad" question...

"Is e4 still playable?"
Problem is, this question already has some assumption in it (becasue of the "still" word), like if it was some kind of fact, that is not a playable opening anymore. I dont state that, you say it, I dont even state you meant it, but certeanly you asked it in a very unfortunate way. There are so many "not easy drawn openings" in the e4 system I can't even count it. At your chess level, you shouldn't bother what kind of openings are easily end in drawn theoretically. It's simply because even grandmasters many times make slight mistakes, that can put a theoretically drawn game into a wild battle. Even so many times, they avoid usual lines, choosing less accurate moves, so they can put the opponent out of their opening preparation. My only advice that is you play an opening you like, what you can understand, when you start learning more, you will realize, the game is way more complex, than holding a drawn easily.
With the rising popularity of the Berlin Defense, I’ve decided to prepare 1. e4 e5 as black for use against higher rated players. It seems to me like theoretically, the Ruy Lopez can be met with the Berlin, the Italian Game can reach positions like the Giuoco Pianissimo (literally translates to “very quiet game”). It seems to me that black can get relatively easy (although theoretically complex) draws out of all the main variations of e4 e5, other than the Vienna (which I don’t know anything about) and the King’s Gambit (which is rarely played at the top level). Since black gets draws so easily, why is e4 still playable?
Results are much more often decisive in an amateur game than gm game, so I wouldn't worry about it, or any opening for that matter being too drawish.
great game
