Is Pirc/Modern Defence too risky for a club player ?

Any opening is good at club level, if you know it.

But it sounds to me like it would be easier for you to stick to the Sicilian. And learn the anti's. If you already have the mainlines down pat, why throw all that away?

for a club player? Vlad Kramnik played it during the Candidates! I think it will be fine for a club player.

The point is that it needs a high level of tactical and positional awareness to withstand whites onslaught, that is fine for Kramnik, but not joe bloggs at the club, who will likely fold against whites easy attacks.

Why give white all the fun?

Sicilain is much better as white is the one who needs to have the understanding, and most club players find the white side difficult which is why they all resort to anti's

I started with the Pirc and I didn't like it. It feels like white has all the control
