Is there a way to get the computer on this site to open with e4 when I play against it? I want to practice a particular defense.
If there is not, then is there any free program or website that will enable me to do this?
It does play e4. If it doesn't start with e4, you can just keep hitting new game until it does.
If you're looking for a specific opening line, Arena allows you to create an opening book with only that line, if you wish. I'm thinking that Scid or Scid vs. PC might also do that, but I'm not sure.
If you can give me the exact line you're interested in, I might even be able to make the book for you. However, if you may need other lines in the future, you'll probably want to learn how to do it yourself.
Also, if you want to skip all of the moves leading up to the position of interest, you could make an epd file containing just that one position. Then, when you start a game, move 1 will start at that position.
