Kasparov's games against Deep Blue are not particularly edifying. But I concede the point based on others' data provided.

I hardly play 1.e4 anymore because there's just so much French, Modern, Pirc, and Sicilian theory to learn.  Memorizing those clear advantage for white lines against 1...g5 never see the light of day even in casual games and 1.e4,e5 2.Nf3,Nf6 3.Nc3 gives black the power to transpose into a four knights, though white can break symmetry well with 4.d4!

1.d4 seems more fluid and good moves suggests themselves, and inaccurate play isn't as punishable usually.  You screw up with 1.e4 and black typically obtains a good initiative.

Karpov tried to get around this with the Caro-Kann...and he's the Last of the Mohicans on that one. Might just as well have been the First of them too.

We won't see a another d4 World Champion again, not for a LONG time.

Karpov was NOT the last titled player to play something different.  How about we merely go back two months to when the World Championship took place.  What is Carlsen, then the challenger and now the world champion, play in Round 2 as Black?  Huh?  Huh?  I can't hear you!  Yes, that's right, THE CARO-KANN!

No d4 world champion, huh?  Hmmmm....again, just happened!  What did Anand play in round 9, at which point he was still the World Champion as Carlsen hadn't won the match yet?  Huh?  Huh?  I can't hear you!  Yes, that's right, 1.d4!

Not to mention, check out any one of the many books on Carlsen's Games.  He plays e4, he plays d4, he plays c4, he plays everything!

Therefore, a word to the OP - shut up until you have something more intelligent to say!
