Your talking about the 9.Ne1 line, correct?

I think the main line is 9.b4 - Bayonet Attack.

The Mar Del Plata is the whole complex after 8.Ne7.

That includes 9.Ne1, 9.Nd2, and 9.b4 (The Bayonet).

In that whole complex, there is one piece that Black must hold onto for dear life, and the person that said the Kings Indian Mar Del Plata was beginner friendly (namely you) still hasn't answered any of the fairly routine and simple questions. Not so simple or beginner friendly, huh?

Interesting.

I have always called the complex after 8.Ne7 as the Orthodox Variation which is what many of the Databases have called it.

The answer to your questions are:

- Light Square Bishop

- Rook

- Dark Square Bishop

Also, The reason I say the KID is beginner friendly is because we have to remember most Beginner White side players are not playing Queen Gambit type positions.

They are playing Landon’s and KID does well vs. Londons.
