All 6 games have started this way:

However  dzikus  has made the additional move of 3. Bc4

glsmith

Why not ponz said not rated games anything goes non rated games.

3. Bc4 is supposed to be more accurate than Nf3 these days?

No, quite the opposite.

Black has easy equality with 3...d5 (which Bc4 is supposed to prevent) and chances for some advantage after 3...Nc6. 3...Ne7 is also fine (mostly it transposes to Nf3 lines), and there are other good moves.

I prefer 3...d5 myself, but it's more or less a matter of taste.

Ponz -- quick ethics question -- aside from using computer analysis, can we share analysis with other players while the games are ongoing?

Thank you for the question.  I believe the chess.com answer is "no" in a situation like this.

So for the public, watching, please let us have no more comment on what may be best move.  I am not accusing anyone of anything but it would be better for this competition.

When I played the Black side against the Ponziani there was discussion but on a thread the players could not see. [that competition was 8 games.]

ChessinBlackandWhite

comments on the game itself (below the actual game) cannot be seen by the players until after

There are now 5 games with this start:

ponz111
ponz111

One player, dzikus, played  1. e4  e5  2. f4  exf4  3. Bc4

[and I am still waiting for my book!]

TheMushroomDealer

BTW are ya gonna play the same variation against 3.Nf3? There is quite many good lines for Black

ponz111

Have not decided what variation I will play against 3. Nf3.  The book will help me decide.

I am glad someone didn't get caught up in all the Shaw hype about "refutation."

Hi Ponz,

I know that you didn't ask - but I would happily play the BLACK side of the K's Gambit against you, with or without engines :-) for white, find somebody with more masochistic tendencies :-)

I only use it as a surprise weapon against people who I consider to be relatively easy to beat. Of course I get the occasional nasty surprise, but this is life :-)

<IM Pfren> I hear that on 1. e4 e5 2. f4 ef 3. Bc4, also 3...Qh4+ has its merits (with a line which may go 4. Kf1 Bg4 5. Nf3 Qh5).

I had a number of exciting blitz games with this line as black. Very double edged and interesting - and black isn't doing all that badly. Your opinion?

Right now as I write this, I only know a very little about the Kings Gambit and only wish to play the Black side as an experiment.

I have no book on the Kings Gambit, not even a data base.  And yes I have ordered Shaw's book and it will get to me in less than 24 hours.

May play more than one line against 3. Nf3 or maybe just one line...

Check this link out, my friend  -

I call it 'the equalizer'. Can you guess why? :-)

It may indeed prove useful, and not only for the K's G-bit.

Enjoy!
