King's gambit move 6 - what should white play?

You've just played the king's gambit. Your opponent is defiantly fighting to hold on to the extra pawn. What do you do?

It looks like things could get really messy soon, so choose carefully!

6.Bc4 seems to do the most.

If we play 6. Bc4 then we will surely face 6... d5!!

How do we respond to that?

7. exd5

5. Ne5 is already showing you don't have the guts to play a real King's Gambit.  I would have played 5. Bc4 and moved into the Muzio lines.

7.ed5.  White now has 1 center pawn, and black has none.

That's not the Muzio, since white has played h4 not 0-0. It's just a game losing blunder.

Ah, right, forgot about h4 since I never play it.

GM Joe Galagher in Winning with the Kings Gambit recomends either 6. Bc4 or 6. d4 ( seemingly second best choice).  He advices against 6. Nxg4, when after a very sharp play Black should "at very least" reach equality.

HI guys,

I realize I'm new and not very good, but I thought I'd throw my opinion in...

doesn't  ( 6. Nxg4 Nxg4  7. Qxg4 ... ) put white in very good position?  ...or would black see this and not recapture at g4?
