Kings Indian Bd3 variation with Nh5!?

Sort:

Hey guys, here is my inquiry:

A common variation among high level players in the Kings indian against Bd3 is Nh5 BEFORE the typical e7-e5! What is the point? Are there better alternatives? Is there a fight ever f4 anticipated? What am I missing? Nh5 seems to go in the face of typical rules (i.e. N on the rim is dim), but of course rules are ment to be broken!

Lets talk about it!!!

Hi,

7...e5 is better. E.g. 8.d5 Nd4 9.Nxd4 exd4 10.Nb5 Re8 11.Re1 Bd7 12.Nxd4 Nxd5 13.cxd5 Bxd4

But then again I do agree with you, I would play 7...e5 in a real situatuion, Im just trying to understand the rationale of a few GM games I saw that played 7...Nh5. Fritz actually recommends 7...Nb4 or ...Nd7.

Ofcourse 7..Nh5 is playable. E.g. Judith Polgar has played this move Donner em. Amsterdam 1995 and won against jeroen Piget (2625). It makes possible to f5 quite easily. 8.Be3 e5 9.d5 Ne7 10.Qd2 f5

I don't really like the fact that the pawns go out on white IMMEDIATELY and your queen+king is opened. But I'm always far in on defense, so I might be wrong.
