Good points Firethorn and 0719

The thing is also that white has to deal with the complexities of the Ruy Lopez, Sicilian, French, CK, Modern/Pirc etc when playing e4... how much time will he/she devoted to the Lion? My guess is not too much, maybe glanced at Shirovs g4 and figured the position plays itself. In a none professional world, openings like the Lion are made of Gold

Nevada2012

I just finished a tourney OTB ... I play Lion as black and white... played a 700 points higher than me for 4.5 hours. He won but ran the game through his analysis engine ...said the opening was solid.

Playing in the Reno tourney this weekend and I am 3-0 , so far ...

Live the opening ... people underestimate and it turns into some really fun games of attacking , defense , tactics ...

My opponents enjoy the games because the games are fun !

I know I shouldn't but I always like playing openings with cool names, even if they're bad.

Isn't this just the Pirc and King's Indian combined?

The Black Lion isn't bad at all ... tongue.png

(You should be flexible though - it is recommendable to know related openings like Philidor-Hanham and the Czech Benoni, and to transpose into them if more appropriate ...)
