Lion needing help?!

Hi guys. Please help me understand... Earlier today I was checking some of the features on Learn... and came across opening Explorer? Having played around with various Indian defence ideas... I wanted to see how Classic defence compared. Many experts recommend the Slav against D4, for example. So Lion check win ratio... and find that Slav win a humiliating 21%?! And QGD only gets 23%. Very surprised that QGD beats Slav... I knowing they can be quite drawing... but for a two player game that's an awful win ratio, surely? Not only that... according to Explorer the QGA wins much more than QGD or Slav... and the best defence against queen's gambit... Albin Counter Gambit. What?! According to expert opinion... Albin be a dangerous, unsound opening. So... what's going on here? Are QGD and Slav busted? According to Explorer Indian defence and QGA are better.

Anybody? Gotta love these forums. Ask a serious Chess question... Nobody answer. Ask a drivelling troll question... Many answer. Obviously the CPU must be right? QGD and Slav are both sh,t. Why play something that wins 23%?

In master play 1. d4 d5 2. c4 lines have black drawing or wining in over 50% of games. The initial goal of black is to at least equalize, so that's good.

Other options may have higher percentages, but in general, the opening, if played well, has little influence on the overall outcome, so the percentages should be taken with a grain of salt; they are just based on historical results and there is more to a game than the opening, with most games won/lost/drawn based on later play.

Lion, the queens gambit declined is actually a very good weapon. However, a better move order is

This avoids the exchange QGD as well as the early Bg5

Hmm... thanks for replying guys. Obviously I knowing that QGD can be used as a convenient draw weapon at master level... and the Slav has the infamous exchange variation. But still... 21% for Slav has to be mediocre. On many occasions Lion has read expert and forum opinion along the line of... If you need a win play Slav, not QGD... Slav be the best response to D4... Slav favourite of master player, etc. Even more confusing... when I joined them together, making an Accelerated Semi Slav... the win ratio immediately shot up, to nearly 40%?! Given how well the QGA scoring... why do they play much less? Soviet players used to prearrange games, I think. Not going to accuse modern guys of that, but... Could we have a kind of, how you say... nod and wink scenario? If it suiting both players, they open QGD or Slav... with the intention of a handshake draw? Do ChessCom or anybody have a database for amateur players? Would be very interesting to compare, ya?

I think the best fighting weapon against d4 if you need a win is a Grunfeld, or Kings Indian.

Last night I was looking at the Krush-Nguyen game from US Women's ... and it seems to me the low score for Black would have more to do with the second-player just kinda winging the Slav out there and getting into trouble really quick not really knowing it. It seems to be one of those openings you might have to violate a general rule here and there to reach equality as Black. And educated players can play on this information.

This has got ti be OP's 10th account so far. What a troll.

LuvLoveDancingLion

So? Respected people on forum have used more accounts... maybe even you. And some have several simultaneously... against the rules? Lion has Never had an account closed... though I have been muted. And define a troll? Even if I used to do a little, give and take... I'm putting a serious question here. And I forgive you 💗.

LuvLoveDancingLion

@RiverKnight... I get kinda what you mean 😏. But if somebody can make WGM and play in a US Championship... I would expect them to have the Slav learned to autopilot. Maybe the QGD and Slav have a lot of them dodgy Soviet games in the database... giving them an unfair win ratio?

RivertonKnight

I meant more like 7...Nd7 is a move that violates principle, but is probably a better way to fight in this position. Things like 7...a6 looks like an okay move, but is not so good according to my database and Stockfish, so strong player beats strongish player knowing that they need to violate a general principal in certain positions.

Yeah I know I don't make sense to me either!

Maybe openings are overrated 🤠.
