Looking for a general Queen's Gambit book.

Hi,

I was hoping someone could help recomend a book for me.  With white I am focusing on 1d4 systems these days, and unless my opponent does something utterly strange (say 1. . a6 or some such) I follow up with 2 c4.

I find that when I try to study openings I either get something like MCO which has theory by the bucket full, but very little exposition on why the good moves are good and the bad moves are bad, or a very focused book that goes into minute detail of one particular subsystem of one particular opeing, and if the opponent doesn't play x on move 6 the whole system is useless.

What I really want is something in between, something that looks at the major responses to 1d4 2c4 ,  not necessarily exhaustively, but in broad strokes with analysis that is instructive for a player that is trying to move beyond novice into intermediate play.  I want to look at common stragetic themes, positional ideas I should be keeping in mind, etc.  Does such a beast exist?  Any thoughts would be welcome.

How about Starting Out: 1d4 by John Cox. I don't have it myself but I have heard it is very good for players who want to play the critical mainlines after 1.d4. He reccomends pretty much heavy theory lines that are seen at the top level, but unless you play at a very high level, than knowing all the variations is not critical. Starting out books in general focus less on theory and more on ideas, and are generally quite good for players under master strength.

ceefor, that Garry Kasparov title you posted is a DVD and it covers 2...e6 specifically.  That is not what the original poster asked for.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  I actually found that DVD from Kasparov at the library.  It is definatly focused on queen's gambit declined with e6, but it is very interesting.  I will look for the book by Cox.
