I play the Sicilian as black, but a lot of times i get crushed by higher rated players simply because they know more theory and calculate better than me. On the the other hand I have really good results with the Sicilian against people at my rating and below. Can anyone recommend a more solid openin

Against e4 - Scandinavian defence with Queen d8 or Caro kann, but you need to know theory as it may escalate quickly into sharp game .

Against d4 - Slav defence or just simply d4 -d5 avoid any exchange variations.

Try the caro Kann. It is a nice positional game generally. I have very good results with it
