I beat Wally with it in 23 moves with it. While it looks passive in the beginning, I have found the middle game to be very quick in most games since it's a very trade happy set up. That set up also is against passive players. With more aggressive players playing black, both sides get to an end game fairly quickly.

You're not playing it right then, the entire premise of the opening is to launch a huge kingside attack with f4 + g4 to land some sort of Qh5 mate threats, if you trade all your pieces off then that won't be possible
I think 1.e4 has aggressive lines if you want but also allows for pretty safe play. I personally play the Italian.
