The same issue has probably inflicted your opponent as well. As far as I know, chess.com will not give you back your points. In bullet, losing on time with more material than your opponent is very common. If you lost on time because of some connection issues, probably because your opponent lives across the world. Chess.com tries to keep the time on your clock consistent with what your opponent sees and chess.com will adjust the clock faces and compensate for lag, although you may want to ask an expert on this. So you may have lost on time, and the clock face wasn't in sync with your moves. It might have been another issue but I hope it doesn't happen to you again though. I don't think you can really do much about it.
lost because of lag

Is there anything I can do to get the points back since I was up a piece and had a big advantage in my position, or do I just need to suck it up. Also, have anyone else experienced this? :)
That sounds just like a disconnect, though one your client didn't register.

Read the answers and just wanted to thank you all for taking the time to comment. As I haven't encountered it before and I only play chess for the fun of it, I'll just try to have more than 3 seconds left on the clock the next time, in case of unfortunate circumstances. Once again, thanks.

Yes I happened the same to me and in 2 games it works perfectly but in chess.com I start with 54 seconds per game like that of lag instead of a minute I was 2081 but this website lag is insane I got back to 2068 thanks to that and I moved and they moved but counting on my time like that but I other websites like chessarena hasn't ever happened that only once but this has happened a lot of times I this website it's practically normal i think but I think the same of getting my points back
