So I was talking on an ICC channel and someone had said the Marshall vs. the Ruy Lopez has been refuted. Is this true?

As far as I know, the recommended action against the Spanish is still the Ruy Lopez.

Capablanca beat Marshall the first time he saw it, that goes to show you how good Capablanca was. The Marshall is why I don't like playing the white side of the Ruy Lopez.

Ugh.  Typing too many things at once.  As far as I know, the suggested counter is still the Morphy's Defense.  I'll look into Marshall, I've never heard of it before.

I think whites 17th Qxd5 is the "refutation" your acquaintance is talking about, it certainly looks good.
