modern defense vs. caro

In most of my games as black i play alot of the modern and recently started getting into the caro. An issue ive had is i dont know which one i should commit to since even though ive been playing the modern for a long time the caro is a popular opening and its been under my radar since but im not that good in theory just yet. I find that when I play the modern for the most part I know that people typically love to push their H and G pawn with the queen to shatter the defense and I always get nervous when there is a queen and knight starring down my king even though the position isnt losing just yet. however, when i play the caro I know that you can get some really good positions but there is alot of theory to learn and most times I forget how to get a specific position in the caro. What would you prefer to do? stick with the modern or transition to the caro?

Caro kann is a solid opening against e4 so maybe best to learn some of the tricks and moves and build on it. All depends on styles aswell and what type of games you like.

These are actually my top 2 choices for black.

Gotham Chess has courses on both which I’m using.

Personally I’m taking the time to master the modern course since you can play it against both e4 & d4.

After I have all the main stuff from the course pgn memorized then I’ll begin to study the Caro.

Either opening is great. What makes the difference is how much in depth you study it. 👍

my favorite strategy against those pawn pushes is just to ignore.

heres a 3min game of mine. Just remember to act energetically in the center

Aren't both openings for black?

OP is asking which one he should stick to.

oops

Ok, I'd think the modern is better. It can be played vs both d4 and e4. Caro kann is also too passive.
