The french defense for sure
most hated chess openings

the kings indian beat magnus carlsen
The London System has also beaten Magnus Carlsen before, so do you admit the London is good?

the london is not good or bad

With the white pieces I used to hate the French, mostly because I was trying to re-learn a bunch of 1. e4 e5 lines after many years away from chess. However, I took some time looking at the Advance Variation, and have been having a lot of fun with it. Now, it's really just the Sicilian and Caro-Kan that I don't care to see as I'm still trying sure up my basic openings and those are both on the "to do" list.
As Black, I never liked playing against 1. d4 ..., not entirely sure why actually. I focused on the Dutch (both the classical and the stonewall), which I really enjoy.
For me, when I get that "oh I hate this opening by my opponent ..." feeling, I know it is just me admitting that I've not looked at it and so I'm not feeling prepared. If it comes up enough, I'll try and have a quick look at a few ideas, and eventually when time allows, come back to it and try and find a line or two that I can steer the game towards.
I don't mind if the game goes to wide open positions, or if the board closes up, or it quickly turns into an end-game, etc, so for me "hating" an opening is really about whether or not I feel comfortable in the first phase of the game.
Petrov defense is AWESOME!!! It's the goldsmith defense that is terrible. Stop hating on the french.
