YES... a varations of the Classical that Black is fine. One of the many reasons I Prefer the Center Counter Defense over the Caro-Kann

black can just play qd5 after nxe4 and there really isnt any better move than than nc3 transposing. believe me i have checked, qf3 and ng3 are purely equal at best. better to learn some side line of the scandinavian and keep some edge
2.nc3 is fine but your opponent likely knows of this way of forcing transposition

2...d4 and yes then it becomes the van geet attack
