When Black plays d6 it seems like a mistake, but then when Nxf7 appears Black takes advantage of the fact that he is not in check, allowing him to play Bg4, offering a trade of queens. Of course this position is in White’s favour, but it does allow Black to do some flexible development such as… b4.
