Can anybody post the long term ideas of the Nimzo-Indian for black?

I'm not sure of your level, but Winning Chess Middlegames by Sokolov is an EXTREMELY good read and focuses on Nimzo-Indian structures. I think your post is a bit difficult to respond to immediately, if you would like to analyze you can message me :).

I agree, it really depends on what you are facing (the line that White had chosen)..

It can either be very tactical very quickly or slow/strategic maneuvers... a quick counterattack or a positional bind, you name it.

I have actually analysed one of the lines here, so you can have a look if you're interested in the Nimzo:

I really like the Nimzo and agree with all that has been said.  Central control, possibly trading off the bishop to double whites pawns and early castle.  Black has gained a tempo but I think must be agressive as I find a passive Nimzo to easy to defeat.  As with any opening piece activity is key to succeed.

exchanging bishop to a knight is nomally bad. but creating double pawns on c-file and keeping the position closed will nutrilazised the power of 2 bishops
