There isn't much written on the different variations of the Nimzowitsch Defense. (At least, not that I have ever found.) I wanted to discuss a variation of it with which I've had particular success, an opening I'm calling the Flying Knight until something better comes along. These are the standard moves that start it off:
The opening is characterized by three moves by the g knight in the opening, hence the name. The idea of the opening is to form a blockade of pawns along the center that filter your pieces toward the kingside and your opponent's pieces away from it. White tends to still castle to the kingside despite this process, which allows for a bunch of tactical play from black's teamed knights. Here are some example games:
I have some live games with this opening, but I still need to scour through to find them. I'm interested to hear responses and ideas about this opening. I don't have solid ideas that I like for openings such as 1. e4 Nc6 2. Nf3, at least not systems I'm as confident in as this one. Any and all comments are welcome.
