englund? i think it good.

The Englund is trash! It's not good and it's not easy. Answer the question truthfully, not with whatever garbage you play yourself.

I play the Mexican Defense (a.k.a. Two Knights Tango), but that is not an easy opening, so I would not suggest it to the OP.

The answer would be the Orthodox QGD. 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 (if 4.cxd5, then 4...exd5 5.Bg5 c6 6.e3 Be7 followed by O-O unless White does something like 7.Bxf6, then obviously you recapture.

- I have avoided the slow, theoretical positions, because I want to put white under pressure to play accurately.
- Englund is dog crap. White is happy when he sees this OTB.
- Slav - I played it a while. In some lines you can get a material advantage early, which is very good. But I found that often white just gets all his pieces on optimal squares and has a great middlegame. There is a boomerang effect in this line where it feels like black has good initiative early on, but it boomerangs back around.
- QGA - it's a good line. Although it can be a bit simplistic and boring, it's a reliable option. Leads to an open game where there will be alot of pressure, but then pieces trade off. The main reason I don't play this is 1... Nf6 deals with sidelines better than 1... d5, and all I see these days is sidelines.
- Tarrasch - Black gets good initiative here. White players don't seem well prepared either. I think the IQP is worth the initiative. The main reason I don't play it again, you have to reach it via 1... d5, which can lead to dry London and Zuckertort positions that don't challenge white and I don't enjoy.
- Triangle - I love the noteboom but in other lines, like the immediate e4 (Marshall Gambit), white has all the initiative. I'm also not satisfied with the triangles options against the quiet slav setup
- Benko - I like this line alot. For starters, you reach it via 1... Nf6 which can shut down the London via 2... c5. You also get to play the psuedo-benko against the Zuckertort. And the benko itself just always leads to dynamic positions where black seems to have all the initiative. It just plays well for black.

These days I'm recommending the Benko.

I play the King's Indian defense.

Yes, people tell me it's borderline unsound.

Luckily I'm not playing against GMs. And I've beaten titled players with it.

All the 1...d5 responses are relatively easy to grasp and play. They can be theoretical, but you won't be punished for not knowing it, as long as your play is relatively logical. You also learn good opening habits from these openings.
