Opening Strategy leading to Middle Game Plans - Chess Forums

Hello all,

I've recently realized my major weaknesses in chess.

1.) I hang pieces too often

2.) I have poor opening knowledge

3.) With the openings I do understand, I lack basic resulting middle game plan knowledge

4.) My endgame knowledge is very limited.

Given those weaknesses in my chess understanding, I have decided to learn some new openings and their resulting middle game plans. After I feel like I can at least survive the middle game, then I want to focus on the endgame.

What openings should I study first? Should I study openings that lead to closed positions, or openings that lead to open positions? Should I start with gambit lines which are super sharp or start with tame lines like exchange variations?

Also, I am looking for a sparring partner who also wants to learn openings and middle games, he or she should be rated 2000 + If anyone is interested, please send me a private message.

There are a few openings I need to learn first since most of the time I play them I lose. They include playing as white against the french defense, playing as white against the sicilian defense, playing as white against the scandinavian defense, and playing as white with the Panov Botvinnik Attack

Pick one of the non-committal openings and study it well :)

Non committal openings are anything that doesn't start with or have involve an early c4, d4 and e4.
