Openings for closed and strategical games
French defense is the best for closed and strategical games
Thanks for your suggestion, however I mean openings for white
Which openings should I play if I like closed and high strategical games? I like games when the center is completely closed and you have to prepare a rupture somewhere and/or start maneuvering with the knights. With black I've played such games using a sort of Caro-Kann/ Closed Slav defense if that makes sense.
Thanks in advance
Caro-Kann and Slav are not the answer based on what you describe.
There are 5 different types of pawn center:
Blocked - What you describe
Mobile - One side has a big pawn center that is mobile and not blocked (Grunfeld, Alekhine)
Static - One file is block, no files completely open (Exchange QGD, Exchange Slav, Colle/London/Torre)
Open - At least one completely open file (Exchange French, Petroff, Berlin)
Dynamic - Amorphous shaped, those not in the above four categories (Najdorf, Saemisch KID, etc)
The Blocked Center, by definition, involves multiple central files blocked, play is typically on the wings. There are three openings that fit this category perfectly. Now, you will need to know others based on certain variations:
French Defense - Winawer and Advance lead to the blocked position. You will get Open (Exchange Var) and Dynamic (Open or Closed Tarrasch)
King's Indian Defense - Classical, Petrosian, Mar Del Plata, 6...e5 Saemisch. You will also get Dynamic (Saemisch with 6.Bg5 where 6...e5 is a blunder), Open (Exchange KID).
Czech Benoni - You will get the dynamic center for Anti-Benonis. Otherwise, 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e5 followed by d6 and you have a blocked center.
