A while ago there was a post about using the same openings for both Live and Correspondence Chess. I started to think about it and I find that I have used the same openings for both types (and actually have expanded my opening repertoire), however now I am wondering if people tend to use the same openings for different time controls. I am trying to learn the Queen’s Gambit opening in Blitz games using 10|5 time controls (& not having much luck), and I find that I am not doing so great; I figured that if I can play many games using an opening that I could learn it faster but it seems my theory isn’t any good. Anyway, now I’m thinking if my plan is wrong and I should play a longer time control for new openings or if it just depends on the opening itself and not the knowledge of the opening used. Bullet = 1 minute Quick = 5 minutes Blitz = 10 minutes Long (Standard) = >10 minutes I’m not exactly sure if my minutes for each version are correct. I have found that the combination of Blitz and d4 openings does not work well for me; I do not normally play Blitz…with Blitz, the time of 10|3 is less than half my normal time control of 25|3, which could be what’s causing my bad results. I’ll have to give other openings a try in Blitz before I can say that it is a Blitz game (time control) that is the issue and not the opening used in the time control, at least for me.
Do you use the same openings for each of these versions of chess? What do you think about using certain openings for the different time controls? Which openings do you use for each version?
